The Empress Hotel (now Fairmont) opened on 20January, 1908 and is considered one of Canada’s grand railway hotels. Itwas built by a division of the Canadian Pacific Railway to service its steamshipline terminal a few blocks away. It is a designated Canadian national historicsite and is one of the oldest hotels in Victoria, British Columbia.
This plate is a modified 8-3/8\" square. Center well has a 6\" diameter. Profile depth = 0.75\".
The decoration is a brown transfer which as been over-painted by hand (\"clobbering\"). Labelled under the image \"The Empress Hotel ~ Victoria, B. C.\". The border is a raised Adams-style relief. Hallmarked en verso \"Devon ware ~ Fieldings ~ {Crown image} ~ Stoke-on-Trent ~ Made in England\".
Condition:Very good giftable condition. Visible crazing with discoloration, predominantly on raised pattern on top perimeter. Crazing without discoloration on back. Transfer and hand-painting intact with good color and without scratches or erosion. No chips, flakes, breaks, mends, repairs, cracks, hairlines, blemishes, or mentionable boo-boo\'s. Don\'t feel anything amiss when I run finger around edges. No signs of previous repair or restoration.
