So, how and why did the Smithsonian cut pieces of the actual plane? Before it went in for display at the Smithsonian and Space museum, they decided to take unsalable fabric from the, then tattered wings to frame and sell to the public to raise money for the restoration. I’m not sure how many of these were sold. I’m selling this as a set with the awesome model I found from a one of a kind builder. It’s a metal model. Great shape of the Vin Fiz. Another model and Amelia Earhart’s “Lockheed Vega”, I have in another listing (SOLD), have sat on my desk and walls of my office where parents have been made and companies produced and grown! We only carry toys and models that we feel have a historic. I have searched high and low and decided that this kit gave the airship the most justice!Excellent Christmas present for a historian or a hobbyist.
