We are pleased to offer a beautiful silverplated match box cover signed by E Dropsy, also known as Jean Baptiste Emile, son of the famed French sculptor. He lived was born in 1848 and until age 75 in 1923. Wanting to specialize in metal work, he went to Paris where he learned his trade and used his middle name to sign his work. He became famous for his medals.
This piece is silverplate and is not marked as to maker. The top is illustrated with Dropsy\'s Goddess of Fortune, signed in the lower right corner of the artwork. It shows a goddess in flowing robes, seeding the earth. She carries a cornucopia and is accompanied by a putti or small child.
Condition: Very good - there is plate wear as seen the photos. There are no monograms and the pattern is crisp and well defined.
Size: 2 1/4\" x 3/4\" x 1 5/8\".
