Souvenir building, non-metal trinket/jewelry box, hinged (resin): Shmuel (Samuel) Synagogue located in Bialystok Poland, resin and hand-painted trinket / jewelry box made by Reuven Masel as part of his synagogues around the world collection.
The synagogue was named after Samuel Mohilewer, a rabbi of Białystok.
It no longer exists as such, having been burnt down during the Holocaust.
During the Nazi occupation of Poland, the synagogue was set on fire and after the war it was renovated and rebuilt several times, though not as a synagogue.
Instead it served as a cinema and a sports club and lost much of its original architectural design.
Only the facade and semi-circular closed windows, visible from the courtyard and the apse, which once housed the aron ha-kodesh, have survived to this day.
The memorial box measures: 4 1/2" x 3 1/8" x 4 1/4" and is in excellent pre-owned condition.
