Shetland ponies on six attractive postcards and Shetland illustrated postmark:
$25.85

Here we have an unusual and attractive group of six Scottish postcards picturing Shetland ponies plus a small and neat modern envelope with an illustrated postmark picturing a Shetland pony. They have generally minor edge and corner wear from postal handling.

First we have a black-and-white photo card of a large number of \"Shetland Ponies Grazing\" in the Ideal Series. Below this is an apt quote by Sir Walter Scott. Note the building and the man with the ponies. The 1d stamp is tied by a partial Gosport double ring hand cancel of an unclear date, but the King George V stamps was issued in 1912. The message to a Mrs. Buckingham at St James Park, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, is from her son Burt asking her to send him £1. The card has a disturbed area on the back at the upper left. It has perforations on the left side, as seen from the front.

Next is a vivid Tuck\'s Oilette card of ponies running wild in wild countryside. This is a Harry Payne work in the Horse Studies series. The ha\'penny stamp is tied by a 1910 Warrington 847 duplex postmark. The message to Master J. Headley (sp?) conveys birthday wishes. The card has a shallow crease at the upper right.

Then we have a relatively recent real photo postcard of \"Shaggy Shetlanders, Shetland Isles.\" The card picturing a mare and her pony was anonymously published but is numbered 79. It bears a Baltasound, Shetland double ring postmark of 1960 that ties a 2.5d Wilding (QEII portrait) stamp. It was address to a Mrs. A Hay, Denside, Boddam, Nr Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The message mentions fine if windy weather, a rough crossing and beautiful scenery.

Then we have an older color card with a girl and three ponies titled \"Shaggy Playmates.\" The white border of the card is embossed. The ha\'penny stamp is tied by a Kingskettle (Fife) 487 numbered double ring handstamp of MR 26 10. The card is addressed to a Mrs John Douglas, Schoolhill, in nearby Leuchars. This is a Hartmann\'s Real Glossy \"Panel\" Series G card. It has a number that looks like 3728 6. The card is addressed to \"Dear Sis & Bro\" and contains family greetings and a promise of a visit.

Then we have a modern mint color card of two very appealing young Shetland ponies. The reverse gives some details about \"the smallest of all breeds of ponies\" and their Norse links. The J Arthur Dixon card is based on a photo by Guy Withers and was printed in Scotland.

Next we have a modern mint Colourmaster card picturing several ponies grazing in a treeless landscape. The card is serrated at the top and has a slight fault from when it was detached.

Finally we have a preprinted return envelope for Books for Children in Bristol, England, with a 1979 postmark of Lerwick, Shetland, picturing a Shetland resident. The text says: \"Shetland -- the Natural Holiday Choice. Write Tourist Centre, Lerwick.\"

A smile-inducing Shetland and pony group. This group has been expanded.

The postage costs on this item are higher than I would like and, after leaving them unchanged for several years, I have raised them slightly in line with the 2024 postage rates. Please note that is listing only the postage for the tracked service on the main listing but postage to the U.S. will be $3.50.I strongly advise that items costing more than $40 be sent via tracked post and cannot be responsible for such items sent by ordinary post. British buyers will pay $1.60 postage.

As I have some fixed-price lots, anyone who purchases one of my items might want to look at them before paying. Additional postage is free for subsequent purchases unless they are too big for my normal very low basic rates.

When payment for lots won is received by teatime British time (it is usually dished up about 4:30) I normally post the item the next morning. Our village post office is closed on Saturdays, however, so if you pay on Friday the item cannot go out until the following Monday.
