Sevres Style Lidded Urn

with Gilt Bronze Mounts.

c.1870-1900.

14 1/4" high.

4 7/8" handle to handle.

3 7/16" diameter rim.

Exceptionally fine quality Gilt Bronze

Mounts, two nice paintings on front

and back and Cobalt Blue Ground.

No signatures or makers marks

but high quality.The darker pictures

is what this looks like in person.

A fantastic beautiful piece.

Condition:Excellent antique condition.

Some loss of white dot jeweling and

some gilt wear.

Underneath lid on rim has some porcelain

restoration (area on left last picture) done

well, you can hardly see it in person.

Notes:I have usedthe more accurate cautionary

description for these as "Sevres style" as almost

all sale houses title such pieces simply as

Sevres though 99% of them are not.

The Royal manufactory simplydid not make

piecesfor just anybody and certainly not

in those numbers. So thewealthy naturally

had to turn to otherhigh quality makers

to produce Sevres style thingsfor them,

some of which are highly valuable as well.

But Christie's and Sotheby's alwaysdescribe

these pieces as Sevres Style. If you search

Christie's for Sevres Style 3,000 sold pieces

will come up almost all selling in the many

thousands.

One thing about Sevres is that they were

a small factory and their production is very

limited. Also they're marks are by far the most

faked of all Europeanporcelain factories.

For example if you do a search on

for Sevres it usually brings up about 10,000

items of which usually only about 100 are

actually authentic pieces.
