The Crown PRO PM premium turning tools are made by Crown in Sheffield, England, from a proprietary PM (powder metallurgy) steel, an advanced alloy that holds an edge up to three times longer than M2 high-speed steel (HSS). It is remarkably easy to sharpen despite its exceptional wear resistance, so you can spend more time at the lathe and less at the grinder.The Hamlet Craft Tools are also made in Sheffield, England, and made of ASP 2030 high speed steel which will last approximately 2 to 3 times longer than conventional M2 HSS.
Originally paid over $700 for this set. Bought these to give me a premium set of long-lasting tools to use for woodturning on a full size lathe. Currently only using a mini-lathe and have a different set of tools for that. We\'ve moved to a smaller home and there is no room for a full size lathe so I don\'t see any chance of using these. Hoping they find a good home with someone that can get many years of use out of them.
