Set of 2 RARE Vintage Homer Laughlin TANGO Sugar Base ONLY in Harlequin Yellow! Excellent set of 2 sugar bowl bases in the highly desirable 'Harlequin Yellow' glaze color - sugar bowl base only (no lids). This pair of sugar bowls would make great decor pieces, collector items, or fun planters! A very bright statement piece, perfect for flowers, succulents, cacti, or fun candy dishes or yes you could even use these as sugar bowls!Very Desirable TANGO color-glaze dinnerware line from the late 1930s. This line is known to "chip when you look at it!" Hah! So, to find pieces in excellent condition is always difficult.
Tango flatware started out in several different forms. In July of 1936, two of the designs were considered and called, "Swedish." For the next few months, work on Tango was put on hold while attention was given on developing Harlequin and other shapes. In late September 1936, work resumed on Tango with the modeling of two sizes of teacups. Finally, in October, the flatware was put into place with a modification of the Swedish designs from July 1936 and the name "Tango" was adopted. Colors found with Tango are: maroon, spruce green, Harlequin blue, Harlequin yellow, and red. Tango was not marked and was available for a short time. Tango casseroles, sugars, and creamers are rather hard to find. The most difficult pieces to collect are the demitasse cups and saucers which were picked up from the Republic shape.Note: We have other Tango pieces in the store (as well as many other rare Homer Laughlin pieces) - check the link below! We do combine shipping if purchasing more than any one item in the store!Condition: Very good vintage preowned condition. No chips, cracks, crazing etc. Both have dark spots on the rim from sand bumps / glaze pops / edge roughness that have darkened over time from factory production. Very light handling / use wear. Small factory production imperfections possible on these pieces including sand bumps, glaze pops, glaze skips, etc. Little issues on these pieces. Great pair! See all pictures.See photos for details.
