1. Jacob Perkins (1766-1849). Printer of inimitable Bank Notes in New England. Came to London in 1819 to sell his skill. His firm, Perkins, Bacon and Petch printed the first ever postage stamps of 1840, Perkins then being aged 74.
2. Charles Heath. (1785-1848). Engraver of the Master Die for the world's first adhesive postage stamp. A portrait by Henry Corbould dated 1822.
3. Rowland Hill (1795-1879). Schoolmaster and Postal Reformer. Published 'Post Office Reform its Importance and Practicability' 1837. Advisor to the Treasury on Postal Reform 1839-1842. Secretary to the Post Office 1854-1864, Buried Westminster Abbey.
4. Henry Courbould FSA (1787-1844). The artist who reduced Wyon's City Medal to a line drawing to guide the engraver of the first stamps. Relief portrait from his Memorial in Etchingham Parish Church.
5. William Wyon RA (1795-1851). Chief engraver Royal Mint. Maker of the Wyon City Medal and early coinage of Queen Victoria's Reign. Portrait by his son Leonard dated 1842.
6. Henry Cole (1808-1882). Assistant to Rowland Hill 1839-1842. A Christ's Hospital scholar who later inspired the Great Exhibition of 1851 and pioneered the South Kensington Museums and much more besides.
