For your consideration is a sad iron that was a product of Schreiber & Conchar Manufacturing Company, of Dubuque, Iowa, U.S.A. It has a curved wooden handle. Irons of this type, usually came in sets of three irons and one handle. The reasoning was: While one iron was being used another was heating and one was already hot and awaiting use. The wooden handle has a cast iron & spring steel device; this device simplifies changing the handle to a hotter iron. Irons of this type were popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s. At its widest, the ironing surface is 3 1/2 inches wide and from point to point, measures 6 5/8 inches.
This iron is an old item, that was used. The ironing surface is OK, but not better than OK. The cast iron plate, the handle attaches to is pitted and I am not sure I could have read the writing, if I did not know what it was supposed to say. The device that attaches and releases the handle, works the way it should. The curved wooden handle has a dent and it appears to be factory and as I grip the handle it is in the right place for my thumb, but I\'ve been dealing in sad irons for 50+ years and have never seen a dent in a handle. All parts need to be properly cleaned. Please, carefully examine the pictures, as the pictures are part of the description.Whenever it is practical, I will combine shipping.
