This is a rare and valuable metal license plate from the 1978 national football championship game played on January 1, 1979 in New Orleans, Louisiana, featuring the Alabama and Penn State National Championship game. The plate is in excellent shape and ready to be displayed or added to a collection as it is NOS. It is a must-have for any fan of Alabama football or license plate collectors. The plate is the same one from the 1978 Alabama and Penn State game, making it a unique and special item.

On one side of the license plate is written Penn State Nittany Lions national football champs in 78’ on the other side of the license plate is written Alabama Crimson Tide national champs 61’, 64’, 65’, 78’

The Sugar Bowl National Football Championship Game was played on January 1, 1979 to determine the national football champion for the 1978 season. This license plate was made prior to the game and sold at the game in New Orleans, so that if Penn State won, Penn State fans would buy the plates and display them on their vehicles with the Penn State side facing out.. If Alabama won the game Alabama fans would buy the plates and display them on their vehicles with the Alabama side facing out. Perhaps some fans would want to buy one regardless of whether their team won or not to have souvenir. This is a very scarce plate, because they were only sold at the Sugar bowl game on January 1, 1979. I have never seen this license plate before.

The game featured legendary coaches, Paul Bear Bryant and Joe Paterno. Alabama would go on to win the game 14 to 7 and claim the 1978 national football championship in a game that featured the famous Alabama goal line stand.
