For a time since 1893 and at least into the 1920\'s, the Minnesota branch location was known as \"Deere & Webber\" - Webber being John Deere\'s grandson. Charles Webber was a major figure in the John Deere company\'s history. In 1877, at age 18, Webber started as a mail clerk / office boy, then 2 years later in sales and credit. In 1881, he was sent to Minneapolis to work with a business partner of John\'s son, Charles to develop a retail location. By 1883 Webber was a partner. In 1893 the company\'s ownership had changed and the new name was \"Deere & Webber\". Webber went on as vice president of Deere & Co for decades until his death in 1944 at age 85.
