Santa Anna Bond 1866 signed by Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna - Very Historic Autog:
$2559.00

Antonio de Padua Mara Severino Lpez de Santa Anna y Prez de Lebrn (February 21, 1794 - June 21, 1876), usually known as Santa Anna or Lpez de Santa Anna, was a Mexican politician and general. His influence on post-independence Mexican politics and government in the first half of the nineteenth century is such that historians of Mexico often refer to it as the "Age of Santa Anna". He first fought against the independence from Spain, and then supported it. He rose to the ranks of general and president at various times over a turbulent 40-year career. He was President of Mexico on seven non-consecutive occasions over a period of 22 years. Santa Anna boldly signs this extremely graphic bond. It is without doubt the most impressive and ornate of all autographed stock or bonds. Infamous "Santa Anna Bonds". This $500 bond was issued in 1866 from New York City while Santa Anna was living in exile. While he schemed to depose Emperor Maximilian, he issued these bonds in hopes of regaining power. In these attempts, he was captured and sentenced to death. Still, he was released and allowed to retire to New York and later when blind, he died in poverty and neglect. Of course, we remember him because of his success over the Texans at the Alamo and later his defeat and capture by Sam Houston at San Jacinto in 1836. Found in an old leather container in Texas, this Santa Anna signed American bond is fully issued, uncanceled, has no folds, has full margins and is in Superb condition. Santa Anna agreed with important points in the Monroe Doctrine whereby European powers would not use Dons, Lords, and Governors as absentee landlords of their conquered lands in the Americas. He disagreed with the U.S on slavery; but he did not agree to allow Africans into his territory as freed slaves. He carried out vicious attacks against Native Mexican American tribes. He was called "the Man of Destiny" who "loomed over his time like a melodramatic colossus, the uncrowned monarch". Santa Anna's military and political career featured a series of reversals. He at first opposed Mexican independence from Spain, but then fought in support of it. He backed the monarchy of First Mexican Empire Item ordered may not be exact piece shown. All original and authentic.
