JACK MURPHY STADIUM

Jack Murphy Stadium, later known as Qualcomm Stadium, was a multi-purpose stadium located in Mission Valley, San Diego, California. Opened in 1967, it initially had a seating capacity of around 50,000, which was later expanded to accommodate up to 70,000 spectators. Named after Jack Murphy, a local sportswriter who was instrumental in bringing professional sports to San Diego, the stadium became an iconic venue in the city. Its versatile design allowed it to host a variety of events, including football, baseball, soccer, and concerts, making it a central hub for San Diego\'s sports and entertainment activities for decades.

The stadium was home to several professional sports teams. The San Diego Chargers (NFL) played there from 1967 until their relocation to Los Angeles in 2017. The stadium witnessed numerous memorable Chargers moments, including multiple playoff games and the career of legendary players like Dan Fouts and LaDainian Tomlinson. In baseball, the San Diego Padres (MLB) called Jack Murphy Stadium home from 1969 to 2003 before moving to Petco Park. The Padres hosted two World Series (1984 and 1998) during their time at the stadium. Additionally, the venue hosted the San Diego State Aztecs football team and numerous international soccer matches, further cementing its status as a versatile and essential part of the city\'s sports culture.
