COMPLETELY GONE THROUGH & TUNED STANLEY MADE FOR MONTGOMERY WARDS WARD MASTER NO.4

9-3/8" long , 2-3/8 wide , cutter 2" wide

This is a excellent plane. Stanley made these for Montgomery wards and other than a one piece lateral lever and the lever cap having wards master on it these planes are Identical to a Stanley. Its same plane as a type 17

The body and frog were cleaned very well then Japanning on both given a coat of waxed.
All the hardware was cleaned and oiled. All tread holes are cleaned and oiled
The Tote & knob are very nice. Both were cleaned and sanded smooth then refinished and given a thick coat of clear lacquer.
The sole was hand lapped on a granite slab. Its crucial that the sole is lapped correctly to get a superb working plane.
Cheeks were lapped and the rail's were cleaned and smoothed out.
Frog face & seats lapped.
Cap iron was cleaned and lapped.
The Cutter was lapped and sharpened. Its extremely sharp and cuts superb shavings leaving a very smooth finish on the wood surface.
The Lever cap was cleaned then lapped at its contact point.

This is a superb working plane. A excellent addition to any work shop or collection

Lapping a plane correctly is extremely important using a belt sander is fastest way to destroy a plane and just buffing the cheeks and sole does absolutely nothing for a plane other than giving it a shine.
