A super cool effigy head or rider in the form of Great Serpent from from the Southeastern Ceremonial Complex, or Southern Death Cult (which includes Cahokia). This was originally attached to a Mississippian pot and was a surface find from a northeastern Arkansas field. It is about 3 1/2\" in height. Great detail and an unusual terra-cotta color for the region. I originally had this classified as a Cat Serpent in my records but made no notes as to the book I used for that identification. It is a substantial effigy with a great profile and solid presence. Very Good condition as shown. Smoke cloud on one side does not detract. Damage around the base on both sides. Excellent patina. Displays really well!An amazing artifact and a superb addition to any collection.
