SCOTLAND ~ PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM WITH VIEWS OFEDINBURGH (8), HOLYROOD (2), ROSLIN (1), and FORTH BRIDGE (1). TWELVE ALBUMENPRINTS (8 BY 5.5 inches). Dates from circa the 1870s to the 1880s.The photographs are numbered followed by theinitials J. V. (James Valentine 1815-1879).James Valentine (1815 -1879) was a notedlater half of the 19th-century photographer with a large studio and shop inDundee. He was a prolific photographer producing thousands of prints in variousformats and sizes.

Condition: Used, Hardcover Album with red cloth boards. Gilt title on the front cover \"Photographs\". Gilt-edged album pages. Small label on the inside cover for D. Macara, Stationer, 6 & 8 Cockburn St., Edinburgh. Also, a rubber stamp at the lower right corner of the inside cover reads \"Valentine & Sons, Photographers\". Pen inscription on the flyleaf dated April 12, 1928, with surface damage on the flyleaf from the apparent removal of a label or ex-libris. Light foxing to a few pages not affecting the albumen prints. The album shows shelf and edge wear and bumped corners but the binding is tight and the pages fold flat for ease of viewing.
