History of the regiment

In 1806, under the patronage of Grand Duke Konstantin Pavlovich, in Strelna near St. Petersburg, the Imperial Militia Battalion, consisting of five infantry companies and an artillery half-company, was formed from servants and craftsmen of country palace estates, mainly Finns by nationality. was named a battalion of the Finnish Guard, and on January 22, 1808, for excellent participation in the war with France in 1807, it was assigned to the guard and named the Life Guards battalion of the Imperial Militia, in 1811 it was reorganized into a regiment. During the First Patriotic War of 1812, being in the 1st Western Army, the regiment took part in the battles of Borodino, Tarutin, Maloyaroslavets, Knyazh, and Krasnoye. The regiment commander at that time was Colonel M.K. Kryzhanovsky.

For military actions in 1812 - 1814, the Finnish Life Guards Regiment was awarded St. George's Banners with the inscription "For distinction in the defeat and expulsion of the enemy from Russia in 1812." and silver trumpets with the inscription "In reward for excellent gallantry and courage shown in the battle of Leipzig on October 4, 1813."

Participated in the Russian-Turkish war, in the Polish campaign, in the second Russian-Turkish war. During the First World War, the regiment was an active participant in almost all notable battles.

Among the regiment's awards: Regimental Banner of St. George with the inscription: “For distinction in the defeat and expulsion of the enemy from Russia in 1812.” and "1806-1906". With St. Andrew's Jubilee Ribbon, 2 silver trumpets with the inscription: "Life Guards of the Finnish Regiment, in reward for excellent bravery and courage shown in the battle of Leipzig on October 4, 1813", 2 St. George trumpets with the inscription: "For Warsaw on the 25th and 26th August 1831." Granted on December 6, 1831. 4. Badges on headdresses with the inscription: “For Philippopolis on January 5, 1878.” Granted on April 17, 1878.

Disbanded in 1918. Revived in the Don Army. Of the regiment's officers, 27 people took part in the reconstruction of the regiment on the Don. He was part of the 2nd Don Rifle Brigade. On October 5, 1919, there were 828 bayonets with 45 machine guns. In the Russian Army from 08.1920 he formed a company in the 2nd battalion of the Consolidated Guards Infantry Regiment. He lost 17 officers in the civil war (53 in the world war). The regimental association in exile numbered 74 by 1932, and 32 by 1951.
