Rhodochrosite from Butte! But not from the often referenced Emma mine, or Travona mine... I have for sale a number of specimens from the less referenced locality, The Burlington Mine. This locality, about 3 miles west from Butte, is one of the earlier discovered veins in the Butte area, discovered around 1875, and was unearthed even before the large Copper deposits were found a few miles to the East. This deposit yielded rich manganese ore, and to a lesser extent, but still significant, Silver. As with many of Manganese deposits, Rhodochrosite was one of the \"endemic\" mineral species. Yet, you\'ll find almost no Rhodochrosite from this locality on the market. By the time, people started to collect minerals for fun, the Burlington vein had already played out, and most appealing mineral specimens, had been either processed, or discarded. I got lucky and got possession of an old hoard of material from this mine. A lot of these specimens have some level of erosion present, but at the same time, they show a good Quality of Rhodochrosite, slightly different of what is known from the Emma mine... Some resemble the Sunnyside mine in Colorado. Many grow on a matrix with smaller Quartz crystals. Rare classics from an old butte locality. Not perfect, but appealing and rare nevertheless. I\'ll be listing a number of these specimens, in varying prices, over the next several weeks.
This specimen is a bit larger, numerous semi translucent smaller crystal in a vug. Some damage here and there, but nice overall appeal and historic significance. This specimen is 429 grams, or 15 1/8 oz. The size is 4inch x 3 inch x 2.2 inch. Please be advisee, I ship with ground Advantage.
