The artwork on this pen is a wonderful representation of what Jules Verne’s submarine, the Nautilus, could have looked like in the mind’s eye of readers of his June 1870 novel “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea”.
The Nautilus does, in some aspects, actually bear a strong resemblance to the submarines of modern times. Especially when we consider that undersea exploration in the mid and late 1800’s was more fantasy than reality because humans had not yet developed the technology breathe effectively underwater.
