This postcard shows a view of nice old delivery vehicle! Three men sit inside. It's a right hand drive COE or cab over engine model of truck. The name plate on the front of the radiator readsAlco. It rides on wood spoked wheels as shown. The license plate reads 1913 Ore.The side bed rail is painted and readsWeatherly Ice Cream. It also readsCrystal Ice Co. Storage.The other truck to the left is painted and reads Northern.
in 1894 George W. Weatherly bought a small confectionery at the corner of (now) Southeast Morrison Street and Grand Avenue in Portland Oregon.As a sideline, he sold Weatherly Ice Cream,which he made with a hand freezer. But Weatherly was not one to think small. Before too long he was the ice cream king of Portland and points well beyond.In 1900, he sold the retail business and, as the Weatherly Creamery Co., concentrated on wholesale ice cream, with a bit of butter thrown in for good measure. In 1907, he merged with the Crystal Ice and Storage Co. and went into ice cream in a big way.Crystal Ice merged with Seattle's Western Dairy Products Co. in 1925, with Weatherly as board chairman. He died I believe in 1948.

The card back is divided and is not postmarked. Condition is very good to excellent as shown. Guaranteed vintage and original. The watermark is not on the postcard you are buying here.
