$114.99

This rare c1910 postcard features the baseball team believed to be from the now-defunct town of Good Luck, Maryland. The area now is a suburb of Washington D.C.. The town itself has a fascinating history.

Approximate size: 5.4 inches x 3.4 inches

Good Luck is a now-defunct town and former census-designated place in Prince George\'s County, Maryland, United States. It was established in 1672 as a 100-acre property deeded to Alexander Magruder. Magruder, who owned approximately 4,000 acres of land in Maryland, named some of his properties, including Good Luck, after locations in the Scottish Highlands.

By 1677, the size of the property had grown to 500 acres, and in 1702, 780 acres of land known as \"Good Luck\" was sold. A post office was established in 1817 called \"Magruder\'s\", which was renamed \"Good Luck\" and operated from 1830 to 1852, and from 1872 to 1876.

In 1871, the village of Glennville (later renamed Glenn Dale) was platted by John Glenn and Edmund B. Duvall. Located on the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad, Glenn Dale prospered, and in 1876, Good Luck\'s post office was moved there. In 1899, Good Luck was described as a \"rural village\" alongside \"the railroad village of Glenn Dale\".

Today, the former settlement is occupied by the Goddard Space Flight Center and a residential community.
