Thisvery nice, Rare, Vintage, US Navy Dress Blue Crackerjack Jumper Uniform,featuring custom Dragon Liberty Cuff and Zipper. Overall, the uniform is inexcellent condition. The white stripes have become a little discolored overtime, but to be expected.

Thisawesome, Rare, Vintage, US Navy Dress Blue Crackerjack Jumper Uniform withDragon Liberty designs on top and pants, with a Zipper on the top, does nothave a size on it, but here are the measurements:

Smith, SCPO, USNR (Ret), “As a young third class petty officer Ionce had a set of Navy dress blues ‘tailor made’ in San Francisco, California.Ever since that time I have had a fascination with ‘liberty cuffs.’ LibertyCuffs are those embroidered patches sewn inside the cuffs of Navy dress blueuniforms. These uniforms are worn by Navy enlisted men, pay grades E-2 throughE-6. The embroidered patches were non-regulation, ‘illegal,’ and often resultedin sailors, if caught (usually by the Shore Patrol personnel), having theirliberty cancelled and being sent back to their ship or shore station.”

“Thepatches (liberty cuffs) were sewn, usually by a uniform tailor using a hiddenstitch. This resulted in a regulation looking uniform when the cuffs were inplace and buttoned, but displayed when the sailor was on liberty and unbuttonedand rolled the cuff up one roll to display the fancy designs. Liberty cuffswere found all over the fleet, and in many state side uniform tailor shops.But, they were most commonly made in Asian ports. In fact, the oldest versionsof these fancy inside cuffs were often attributed to ‘China Station sailors,’ ‘ChinaFleet sailors,’ or ‘China sailors,’ for short. The customizing of the inside ofNavy blue jumpers dates back to the late 1800s.”

“Thehistorical time-line of ‘liberty cuffs’ is not well documented. Militaryhistorians and memorabilia collectors place the beginning somewhere in theearly 1900s for hand stitched dragons on silk panels which were then sold toU.S. sailors as mementos of visits to Asian ports. Asian hand stitched silkdragon designed actual liberty cuffs have been dated to the 1930s.”

“Tailor-madedress blues had more fancy decorations than just the ‘liberty cuffs.’ Manytailor-made jumpers had zippers on one side, or even both sides, to facilitateeasy dressing and removal of the jumper. Many had silk designs sewn in theinside/back side of the jumper.”

Inthis case, these tailor-made pants also have custom silk stitching.
