This vintage Koransha Arita Yunomi cup set is a beautiful addition to any collection of Japanese teaware. This set of 5 cups is in excellent condition with 0 chips or cracks. The design is a lovely matte magenta camellia with dark green leaves and beautiful gold accents. You can tell the porcelain is the highest quality - thin enough that light shines through it without sacrificing durability. Perfect for collectors of Asian teaware or those who appreciate the beauty of Japanese art, this cup is a must-have.

The term Arita ware is used to designate the highest quality Japanese porcelain. Also known as Imari, Arita ware is the name of a certain type of porcelain fired in the vicinity of Arita-cho in Saga Prefecture. The founder of the company, Matashiro Fukagawa, created the Koransha pottery in 1689 and was one of the first companies to start designing Arita ware porcelain. The most highly sought after pieces from the company for Western collectors are from mid 19th century to the mid 20th century. This corresponds to the end of Japan\'s economic isolation beginning in the Meiji period. Although it is possible to find a set of yunomi cups with the iris design the company is famous for, I have not been able to find this beautiful camellia design yunomi available for sale. Very rare and beautiful.
