This is a Vintage Solid Brass Edwin Cotterill MechanicalCorkscrew Reproduction Made by Monopol in Germany.
Marked on the front \"Edwin Cotterill\'s Patent Self Adjusting\"with the British Coat of Arms and two lions above.
The original self-adjusting corkscrew by Edwin Cotterill waspatented in 1842. It had a wood handle and a brush off oneend with the rest brass. This model was reproduced by Monopolof Germany; however, the mechanism is more similar to that ofa Thomason Corkscrew. This is a very Rare item as no othersfound currently for sale on or elsewhere.
NOTE: The maker or country of origin is not marked on thecorkscrew. Found the above information on several websitesabout collectible corkscrews.The corkscrew is made of solid brass. It is heavy duty.The corkscrew Measures 9 1/8\" tall with both screws extendedand 6 5/8\" tall with both screws down, The handle is 3\" wide.The base is 1 5/8\" in diameter.
