Rare Tin Litho Coffee Grinder, Norton Brothers Self Sealing Coffee Mill, c. 1880:

Highlydesirable early lithographed tin Norton Brothers Patented Self Sealing coffeegrinder with outstanding graphics on both front and back panels. Grinder stands11” tall and 6” across and is complete with its original handle (which isremoveable). One side features anautical scene with a large anchor washed up against the rocks and a clippership and seabirds in the background.Below the image in tiny letters it reads “Copyrighted by the KendallBank Note Co. 1881”. The other sideshows a bull elk at the edge of a forest with mountains in the background. This side states “Coffee Kept in this Millwill Retain its Original Flavor Being Sealed from the Air at Both Top andBottom”. One side also includesdirections for use. The tin is marked“Decorated by Ginna & Co., N.Y.” which is the company that lithographed thetin. Overall condition is fair-good withareas of paint loss and wear on the lithographed portions. The top and bottom non-lithographed metalshow tarnish and small areas of surface rust.The bottom also has some denting and is a bit out of round but is notnoticeable when the grinder is displayed.The clasp that holds the grinding gears in place inside the bottom ofthe grinder (out of view) is very rusty but the handle and grinding mechanismstill turn. The yellow and black colorsare quite bright and the graphic images are strong -– the grinder displayspretty well. Great opportunity to add ararely offered early coffee mill to your collection.
