A rare survivor - a complete set of 4 graduated size meat or food domes, made in the late 19th century by the firm of James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield. Of polished pewter in a melon-ribbed form. Detachable handles are cast in the shape of twisted branches. Each is marked on the underside "James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield". Each has a loop soldered onto the inside lip of one end for hanging/displaying on a wall. From a well-known Chicago collection of pewter, much of which was donated to Colonial Williamsburg. Very scarce set.

In excellent condition. There are two very slight, small dimples on two of the domes, but no dents, tears, dings or pitting. All are level, without any shape issues. The handles sit flush to the top surface. The nuts that attach the handles on the underside are original. The surface is less smooth and polished than silverplate, although these come very close to the appearance of silver.
