Complete set Includes advertising box and 2 original labeled bottles - 1 cobalt and 1 clear
After college in his native Maine, George Rogers Starkey (b.1823 – d.1896) graduated from the Homeopathic Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1855. By 1869 poor health had forced Dr. Starkey to quit teaching anatomy and surgery. In 1875 he copyrighted "Compound Oxygen" and "Oxygenaqua" as general remedies for chronic diseases. The popular elixers involved the inhaling of nitrous oxide vapors and the drinking of liquid nitrate solutions of ammonia and lead.
The dovetailed retail box is well made and in excellent condition.
The original brass hinges and clasp are clean and work fine.
The 150 year old labels are still rich in tonal quality with little fade and about 97% intact
> NOTE: the box labels are FRAGILE with some separation due to glue loss
> (use caution when handling the box, of course)
Both bottles have original cork stoppers and excellent labels.
Cobalt bottle is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips.
Clear bottle has major crack, but still stands firm and displays well
Inside of box lid has original owner's notation
Box Size: 9" x 6.75" x 3.5"
