Kokeshi hand made by Usaburo Large 10.23 inch / 26 cm TallMidium 10 inch / 25 cm TallSmall 7 inch / 18 cm Tall The founder of Usaburo Kokeshi, the first Usaburo (Usaburo Okamoto), was born in Shintomura, Gunma Prefecture, where the workshop is currently located. He began making kokeshi dolls in Shibukawa City, Gunma Prefecture, in 1950 (Showa 25) and later moved to Shintomura. Today, six craftsmen, who have inherited the first Usaburo's techniques, create Usaburo Kokeshi dolls. Despite being handmade, they produce 15,000 kokeshi dolls per month, exporting to 18 countries around the world, including Europe. Kokeshi are traditional Japanese wooden dolls, characterized by their simple yet elegant design. They originated in the Tohoku region of Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868). These dolls are made from wood and typically feature a simple cylindrical body with a rounded head.
