Rare Mongolian Copper ‘Dombo’ (Traditional Teapot or Jug): $186.00
This sizeable and heavyweight copper teapot/jug standsapproximately 12 ½” in height (including spout) and 5” in width (at its widestpoint). It is an impressive vessel that features a monk’s hat spout,a shape common among Mongolian or Tibetan pitchers, ewers andteapots. The spout opening is enclosed with a perforated metal coverthat has five small vent holes in the center and a crescent-shaped hole nearthe rim from which the liquid is poured. This figural pitcher has atapered shape with four distinct segments separated by wide metalbands.A shapely handle is attached to the body with two hinges thatallows the handle to swivel in either direction.According to myresearch this teapot is called a ‘dombo’ in Mongolian culture.Thedombo is part of Mongolian traditional tableware used to serve milktea.Unique in form, the spout of the pot was shaped for ease ofpouring the tea into a bowl.Additionally, the tea could be keptwarm or reheated in the pot on a fire source, thus the soot on the bottom ofthis pot. This antique Mongolian dombo is in good condition despitesome dings/dents, discoloration and overall wear.It is a rare andmuseum quality teapot that has a wonderful patina and has been well-preserved.
