Rare Image, Original C.1860 Antique Clock Glass, Family Mansion of General Knox, Thomaston, Maine

A Founding Father of the United States, Henry Knox was a major general of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Living in Boston, prior to the war, he was a member of the militia group called the Boston Grenadier Corp offering resistance to the British occupation of the city. He saw himself as the embodiment of revolutionary ideals and was on the scene of the 1770 Boston Massacre and fought in the Siege of Boston in 1775. Washington promoted him to BrigadierGeneral and Knox was involved in nearly every battle of the American RevolutionaryWar. He served as Chief of Artillery in mostofWashington\'s campaigns. He oversaw the logistics of Washington\'s campaign of recrossing the Delaware in 1776 where battles were won in Trenton and Princeton. He is renown for bringing over 60 tons of canonartillery from captured Fort Ticonderoga over 300 miles in snow toBoston where it was instrumental in finallydriving the British out of Boston.Knox is credited for creating the Continental Army\'s Artillery Corps and for taking charge of the placement of the artillery at Yorktown that was a key factor in driving Cornwallis into submission in 1781. After the war, General Knox was appointed President Washington\'s Secretary of War where he served as a loyal and trustedadvisor.
