Signed G.C Marshall is this menu from June 13, 1953 while on board the S.S. United States at a Gala Dinner hosted by Commodore John W. Anderson (piece also bears his autograph). Added by the original owner are newspaper clippings of Marshall. Signed just a few months before he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Menu is inserted into cover and can easily be removed for display if desired (See last picture).
George Catlett Marshall, Jr. [1880-1959] was ageneral in the United States Army and statesman noted for his leadership roles during World War II. He served as Chief of Staff of the United States Army, the 50th United States Secretary of Stateand the 3rd United States Secretary of Defense. Marshall was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953 for the Marshall Plan which directed the economicrebuilding of Europe after World War II.This is a great piece of American history.
Menu folder is in good shape for a 70 + year old item. There is a bit of smudging on the back and a small corner fold.Also some scotch tape residue on the back inside cover, presumably from mounting in a scrapbook.Please see pictures.
