Rare Egyptian bushed pattern 1876 socket bayonet altered at the Citadel arsenal in Cairo (1903-08) to be used on the .303 caliber Martini-Enfield Rifles. These were originally made for the .577-450 Martini Henry Rifles. They also altered the bayonet by cutting away the bridge to clear the Martini-Enfields tall front sight. The bayonet measures 25\" overall with a blade length of 22\" with the modified inside socket diameter of .665\". Ricasso shows the original English markings, Broad arrow, partial WD markings, a light crown over \"3E\" or \"B\", and a \"/89\" original manufacture date. When the modification was done in Cairo they placed a Arabic 3 digit number next to the British stamps, with additional stampings in the same locations, but on the sides of the other areas of the blade underneath the ricasso. The left side of the elbow also has Arabic markings. Scabbard shows the British markings, WD, Broad Arrow, along with a /89 date on the leather along with cartouches. Scabbard shows a 3.5\" unstitching below the cartouche on the corner (tight though) A beautiful piece used by the Egyptian Military. See photos.
