Rare Early 20th-Century Framed Photograph Harry H. Culver Founder Of Culver City:
$75.00

Description:

This is a rare, original framed photograph of Harry H. Culver, the founder of Culver City, California, a key figure in early 20th-century real estate development. The photograph features Culver in a formal pose, with a personal handwritten dedication and signature to William McChesney.

Provenance:

This photograph comes from the estate of William McChesney in Libertyville, Illinois. The estate suffered fire damage in the 1950s, and this photograph, along with other historical artifacts, was stored in a garage for over 75 years.

Condition:

• Photo: Shows signs of age, including foxing, discoloration, and some fading, but remains intact with a legible inscription.

• Frame: In poor condition with significant wear, scratches, and a large crack in the glass. The original wood frame is still holding but has evident damage.

• Inscription: Handwritten and signed by Harry H. Culver. Ink is faded but readable.

Dimensions:

• Frame: 11.75 inches x 14 inches

• Photograph: Approx. 8 inches x 10 inches

Historical Significance:

Harry Hazel Culver (1880–1946) was a pioneering real estate developer known for founding Culver City, California. His vision helped shape Los Angeles County, attracting major motion picture studios and boosting the real estate industry. He was also the president of the National Association of Real Estate Boards in 1929 and famously conducted business from his own Stinson monoplane.

This original signed photograph is a rare collector’s item, especially with its direct inscription to McChesney, but it will require reframing due to its current condition.

Pricing:

Considering the poor frame condition but historical significance, this item is priced at $175.00. A similar signed Culver photograph could fetch higher prices in better condition, but this one is priced accordingly due to its wear.

Pickup Location:

Local pickup available in Grayslake, Illinois. Please contact us to arrange a convenient time for collection.
