Rare Colt 1911 Slide 1913-early 1918:

This is a relatively rare Colt slide with the Rampant Colt stamp placed at the rear of the slide. These slide were used from around serial number 20k to 285k from 1913 until early 1918. There were around 265k Colt military 1911’s produced during this period which is much less than the 1918-1919 Black Army variant. Thus making it less commonly encountered and harder to find. The slide is in good overall working condition with a nice brown patina. I can’t distinguish whether this has had a phosphate finish applied or if it is the original blue with a brown patina. Judging by the depth and clarity of the roll markings, I think it may be the original finish mixed with patina. With the exception of an attempt to obliterate the Army mark on the right side, the other roll marks are very nice. This type of alteration was common back in the day. This would be an excellent candidate for restoration or it can be used as is. It well worth the investment to enhance any Colt 1911 from this timeframe.
