Rare 7th Special Forces Group Basketball Jersey 1960’s Sport Memory Bobby Knight:
$55.00

In 1975 I was with C company 2nd Bn 7th SFG. I was on a A team (Operational Detachment) as a junior weapons man. My team leader was Captain Mike Gyovai. A really great team leader. Back in the day he played basketball for Bobby Knight at West Point. Bobby called him “the toughest kid I ever coached “. In 1975 Ford was the president and he really didn’t like SF troops so we had a lot of “training time”. To stay fit Mike got together a basketball team and found these jerseys laying around in the sports equipment they had in the 1960’s. I played forward in this inter-mural team that played other Fort Bragg teams.

Back then I was 6’ 3” and 220 lbs. So this jersey would fit that size. It’s in good shape. The maker ID tab is gone ( you can see the 2 white sewing areas where it was. I took it off back then because it bothered me.) I imagine this game jersey was used back when Special Forces training was called Spartan training and they had teams to keep the training tough and ready.

I never wore it after I stopped playing in 75. It came home with me and has been stored until now. Appears to be made from nylon.

Note: Mike Gyovai would have been a great leader/general. He never made that rank because he always stood up for the troops and he also didn’t take any BS from stupid senior officers (true SF). My Team Sgt was Lonnie Coleman (another great man) and he told our team to remember most stupid senior staff were put in those positions by others that believed in a warning to those idiots: “ …SCREW UP ONE MORE TIME AND I’LL PROMOTE YOU!”

Thanks for looking and keep the faith.
