This is the stone/granite Desk Name plate for the Music Artist/Actor and his name is engraved on the front with the music notes on the sides and on the back is the Cowboy Hat and Fiddle Design. This measures 14" long and is approx. 3-1/2" tall. Good condition overall.



Short Bio of Art Davis


Davis was born inParadise, Texas, the family moved toOklahomawhen he was two and then back toLewisville,TX. His father was a musician, and by the age of seven, Davis was an accomplishedfiddler. His parents divorced and his mother moved the family toDallaswhere Davis enrolled in high school. He playedfootballand was in the school band playingclarinet. He served in the112th Cavalry Regimentof theTexas National Guardwhere he gained riding experience[1]

His first band was The Rhythm Aces and they worked with manyWestern Swingbands such asMilton Brown and his Musical Brownies, theLight Crust Doughboys, andBill Boyd's Cowboy Ramblers. In 1934, Davis was recording with the Cowboy Ramblers forBluebird Records. He added themandolinto his repertoire of instruments that he played. He became a staff musician atWRR Radioin Dallas and metGene Autrywho was looking for a backup fiddler for a recording session. He recorded with Autry on September 22, 1935 forAmerican Record Corporation.[1]

Autry offered Davis work in Autry's movies and on road tours. He worked with Autry for three years and then moved to Equity Pictures to work onAdventures of the Masked Phantom(1939) under the name Larry Mason.[2]His next movie wasThe Texas Marshal(1941) withTim McCoy. He then appeared in sixserial filmsin 1941 and 1942 withLee Powelland his singing buddy Bill Boyd. Davis served in theUnited States NavyinWorld War II. His last time on film was a short musicalA Cowboy's Holiday(1949).[2]

Davis continued to make a living with music into the 1980s. He died in January 1987, at the age of 73 inBloomburg, Texas.
