Rare German Convent Work Saint Peter Hand Painted WatercolorThis is a very old convent work, dated to the second half of the 18th Century, handcrafted by nuns or monks.The medallion to the center is a watercolor of Saint Peter holding a bible and crosier. A little pale with somepainting loss, traces of 250 years.The watercolor is surrounded by several tiers made of gold wire, extremely intricate work. The first tier isadorned with white opaline glass beads.The monastery work is a web of gold wire in different motifs - countering, ribbons, thin wire.There are two stones, opaline and ruby red that have fallen and lay in the corners. I am selling as is, as I amnot qualified to repair this lovely, unique very old piece.The black frame (original?, unknown) shows age traces and paint loss. The back side is lined with oldhandmade paper (for more stability) but is not original.This piece comes from the estate of a village priest near the German, French, Swiss border.
