Rare 18th C. Wedgwood Blue Jasperware Neoclassical Urn Girandole Vase:
$360.00

Presented is a fantastic old Wedgwood girandole dating to the 18th century. The piece is made very much in the Neoclassical style of the time to which it dates, in the form of an urn on three column legs with a conforming pedestal base. The color is a classic Wedgwood blue, with white relief decoration around the rim, foot, legs, and midpoint. The white decoration is very nicely done, with lion masks holding rings, acanthus leaves and other classically Greco-Roman inspired designs. The stoneware urn has bronze mounts with a faceted crystal/glass collar, which would have originally held glass/crystal candelabra branches, with pendulous crystals to reflect even more light. Suitable glass arms could likely be found to restore this piece fully, but it is a handsome display piece in its current state, too. Or, as we show in the eighth photograph, the bronze and crystal mounts can be entirely disassembled from the urn, and so it can be used as a vase.

The underside is signed Wedgwood.

This piece is in great overall condition, particularly for its age and material. As we show in the ninth photograph, there are some minor chips/fretting predominantly to the corners of the base and to the bottom-most edge. One bottom corner has a more prominent chip, from the tip up about an inch; this is visible in the bottom left of that ninth photograph, and is by far the most noticeable of the flaws. There are some faintly visible lines/fissures in the white relief decoration, which are fairly typical and are original to the making of the piece. There are no other chips, no breaks, and no repairs.

This piece stands about 10 3/8 inches tall to the top of the brass mount, or about 7 3/4 inches to the rim of the porcelain without the bronze. The width from cornice to cornice (on the base) is about 5 3/4 inches. The holes in the top are about 16 millimeters in diameter.
