Rare 1880s Antique Victorian English Majolica Pitcher - Cream with Red Flowers and Green Leaves -English Registry RD92202

This sale is for a gorgeous, antique, English Majolica pitcher. The top of the pitcher is the rarer square shape, not the typical round shape. This beautiful multi-colored pitcher features raised jewel-toned red and green floral and leaf decorations on a cream-colored background. The top band has a cream geometric pattern and the bottom band has cream vertical stripes. A chevron design adorns two of the vertical ribs. The top of the rim is maroon. The interior of the pitcher is the same cream color, and the interior glaze extends all the way to the bottom of the pitcher. This item also has a solid handle.

This is a circa 1880s English Majolica piece. The pitcher is marked on the bottom with the raised English Registry numbers and letters “Rd92202”. What looks like astylized “K” is painted on the bottom, which may be the artist\'s mark or monogram.

The pitcher measures 6” tall, 3 ½” across diagonally from top corner to top corner, and 5 ¼” at the widest point from spout to handle.

Majolica is a richly colored, heavyweightclay potterywith a tin underglaze that is coated with enamel, ornamented with vibrant paints, and, finally, glazed. Most Victorian designs are inspired by nature and can be fanciful. Majolica, especially Victorian English Majolica, is extremely collectible in the United States and Great Britain.

This pitcher is in very good antique condition, no chips or cracks. There is some paint wear on the bottom of the base where it does not show, as well as a manufacturing imperfection on the top band (see photo). Also, some light crazing on the handle and vertical ribs. The colors of this pitcher remain very vibrant. This is a beautiful antique piece.
