This listing is for a rare antique etched / engraved copper printing plate featuring a portrait of an unknown historical or religious figure. He well groomed and finely dressed. I believe he has the collar of some religious order on. From my research I have found similar plates used for printing in the mid 1800s. It is a handsome portrait, with extreme amounts of detail- you can practically see the creases in his skin. I am unsure the production process used, but I believe it could be used to print still potentially, or in an Art piece. I have not “tested” it or attempted to print with it at all. It is a great item for collectors of print blocks, portraits, and more! A nice gift, framed piece, etc.
It is in good antique condition. It has no bending, large corroded spots, or other major damage. It has some light scratching in places, as is common for one of this age. I have not cleaned it at all to avoid wearing it down, cleaning is up to buyers preference but I believed it could polish up quite nicely when done properly.
