DESCRIPTION OF THE LINE Of considerable interest to calculators is the Sputnik logarithmic disk, manufactured by the Moscow Caliber>> plant, designed, like a normal counting slide rule, for various calculations. The logarithmic disk, the scales of which are built according to the principle of a continuous (closed) logarithmic circle, consists of an adjusting ring 1, a body 2, a disk-engine 3; it has on both sides two transparent sighting discs-sliders 4. All parts of the "Satellite>> have the same purpose as the corresponding parts of the normal ruler. On the body of the front side of the Sputnik>> line are applied: the main scale of numbers (D) 5, the scale of square numbers (A) 6 and the scale of cubes of numbers (k) 7. On the front side of the engine are the main scale of numbers (C) 8 and the scale of inverse numbers (R) 9. On the reverse side of the ruler case are applied: the tangent scale (T) 10, the scale of tangents And sines of small angles (SuT) 11 and the scale of sines (S) 12, and on the engine - the scale of the mantissa of logarithms (L) 13 and main scale of numbers (E) 14. On the "Satellite>>" ruler, three identical main scales (C, D and E) are logarithmic. Each of them represents a logarithmic scale of numbers 1, 2, ..., 9,1 (the number 1, in addition to the signature, is provided with a narrow dash). Here, inside the interval (1-2), the numbers 1.1 are given; 1.2; ...; 1.8; 1.9; 2. the spaces between which are divided into five divisions. The price of the smallest division is 0.02 of the ruler interval (1-2). The following scale intervals (2-3), (3-4) and (4-5) are each divided into 20 parts with the value of the smallest division of 0.05. On this part of the scale, each even division (0.1 interval) is marked with a slightly longer stroke. The spaces between strokes, marked 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 1, are each divided into 10 parts; the middle of such a gap (the fifth stroke) is marked with an elongated line. On the main scales of the ruler disk, the constants T= P"=206 265" are marked with special strokes. = 3.14; c = √/4 : p;p'=3438'; With small dimensions (diameter 7.2 cm, thickness 0.5 cm and weight 40 g), the Sputnik slide disc is somewhat more portable than small slide rules 12.5 cm long.
