RIDEABLE BSA WW2 Paratrooper British Jump Bicycle Vintage Folding Bike Military:
$3640.00

B.S.A. Airborne Bicycle, B.S.A. Cycles Ltd., c. 1942
This vintage folding bicycle is a rare find for collectors of militaria. With its original WW2 paratrooper design, it is a unique piece of British history. The bike was manufactured in the United Kingdom and has been well-preserved over the years. The bicycle is in fantastic working order being meticulously maintained and has been restored to its original design as closely as possible preserving the original paint and I only maintain it with an "oily rag". It is a superb frame model with original transfers (head tube and down tube see photos) and paint and the only non-original components are the rubber components and the rear rim. It was rebuilt in 1963 with a 3 speed Sturmney-Archer 3 speed planetary rear hub.

Nice old hard to find folding BSA military bike that has been maintained by a dedicated collector. I am moving and need to downsize the stable and want someone to enjoy this ride rather than have it sit in my storage unit further.

It is in fully rideable condition, brakes pads and tires are news. Spares are included for brakes and a couple different rear sprockets (18, 24) for the rear hub if you want to adjust the gearing for hills/flats. Easy to swap mid ride even!

Frame is Fully Original

Original Handlebars (grips have been replaced with non-original rubber grips)

Original gear drive 46T chainring and bottom bracket has been restored to be buttery smooth, original foot peg design maintained. Many of these have been drilled/tapped to replace with 9/16 pedals but I have kept the original design so the pegs don't dig into your bag if rucking it on your back. Detents holding positions of pegs in place fully functional and they stay open/closed as desired

Original front rim (1 original Dunlop war grade tire for show included, I only have been able to get one over the project to fully restore this)

New tires with Panaracer Col De Vie 650A rubber with gum sidewalls, low mileage probably 100 on this set. New tubes. Includes 1 spare tube.

Rear rim was replaced with a silver Sturmney-Archer 3 speed planetary internal hub dated '63. I have maintained this and both grease nipples for the rear rim and the bottom bracket are regularly greased. Rim takes light oil, bottom bracket grease can be higher viscosity.

Seat is not original but period accurate, and provides some suspension for randonneuring the countryside. Includes rear seat toolbag period accurate but not BSA original components.

Includes functional peg installed pump from Apex inflators in England.

Brake shoes and cables original, replaced pads with Fibrax pads that matched closely the original design.

Folding action works great and hinge locks are in good working order.

I have included 300 flat shipping but will quote out shipping with BikeFlights or ShipBikes and invoice you the final amount or refund the differential from 300 upon purchase to final location. Usually shipping is 150-200 in the Continental US,

1942-1945 BSA Airborne Folding Paratroopers Bicycle

2nd Pattern

(Also sometimes incorrectly called a ‘para bike’ or ‘parabike’)

In 1941 bicycle manufacturer B.S.A. Cycles Ltd. was asked by the War Office to design a folding bicycle which could be strapped to the back of troops parachuting into action. The resulting machine weight only 9.5kg. In practice they were dropped by parachute in groups of three to be picked up by the troops after landing. The twin loop frame of small diameter tubes gives low weight be retains adequate rigidity. After loosening the two large thumbscrews the front half of the frame can be folded sideways to overlap the rear half. Cable operated centre pull brakes are fitted. Over 60,000 folding bicycles were produced, a figure equal to half the total production of military bicycles during the Second World War. The life required was only 50 miles but in fact some achieved many thousands of miles in private hands after the war
