FATHER McPAKE LOSES HIS LIFE
Body of the Curate of the Annunciation Church Found in an Areaway. Supposed to be murder.

Detectives at work trying to unravel the mystery of the death. The young priest\'s life. Ordained but a short time ago, he had by his exemplary conduct made a good name for himself.

At the bottom of four steps, leading from an areaway at the rear of St. Paul\'s Academy, Christian Street, above Ninth, to the basement of that building, was found early yesterday morning the body of Rev. Henry J. McPake, second assistant pastor of the Roman Catholic Church of the Annunciation, Dickinson and Tenth Streets.

Upon the forehead, right temple and nose were marks that looked as though they had been made by a sand bag. Blood was spattered on the steps and on the flagging below. The priest\'s pockets had been rifled of a watch, a pair of eye glasses and a wallet. From his shoulders had been stripped a sacred stoll. His disordered clothing indicated that those who searched him were in exceeding haste. In one of his pockets was found $9.60. Father McPake\'s overcoat and hat, the former carelessly rolled up, were found at the head of the stairs.

DETECTIVES AT WORK
