FANNY ELSSLER (1810-1884) was one of the Romantic Ballet\'s most celebrated ballerinas. Along with Marie Taglioni, Fanny Cerrito, Carlotta Grici, Lucile Grahn, and Pauline Duvernay, she captured the world\'s attention with her dancing. Her most famous dance, LA CACHUCHA, took place in the ballet by Coralli entitled LE DIABLE BOITEUX in 1836. She was much admired by Gautier as the \"pagan ballerina\" in constrast to Taglioni, the \"Christian ballerina.\"
Offered here is an original figurine or statuette in what appears to be brass or bronze metal of Elssler in her most famous CACHUCHA pose dancing with castanets. The figurine is attached to a white marble base measuring 5.5 x 3.25 x 1 inches. The metal statuette without base measures 7.5 inches in height.
