This is a RARE and ELEGANT Wedgwood Queen's Ware celadon green and cream-colored cache pot. It measures 5 3/16"w x 4 3/4" tall and is16" incircumference. It has five lion masks connected by draping grape vines. Below each lion head is a different Greek mythology scene, featuring horses and chariots, and bow and arrow wielding warriors. This pot is in excellent condition, with no scratches, chips, cracks, or crazing. Beginning as an independent potter aged just 29, Josiah Wedgwood experimented avidly with clay, exploring its many possibilities. He is today remembered as the “Father of English Potters”. His pioneer spirit, vigorous design policy, and his commitment to exacting standards of quality are values that remain at the heart of the brand today. Experiments to perfect a cream-colored earthenware body known today as Wedgwood Queen's Ware began in 1759 in a partnership between Wedgwood and Thomas Whieldon. Wedgwood supplied his creamware to Queen Charlotte and Catherine the Great (in the famous Frog Service) and used the trade name Queen's Ware.
