For sale, a rare double sided World War I silk regimental battle flag for the Illinois 1st. Cavalry,122nd. Field Artillery Regiment, attached to the 33rd Division during World War I.The 1st. Illinois Cavalry was organized as the \"1st. Illinois Volunteer Cavalry\" in 1898.Between June and November of 1916, while designated as 1st. Cavalry,the unit was mustered into Federal service for Mexican border duty.The 122nd. unit crest shows this early duty as green cactus in a yellow (gold) field.On June 9th. 1917, Chicago elements of the regiment were converted and re-designatedas the 2nd. Field Artillery, this period is represented with the red fields in the left and right of the crest shield.Lastly, the regiment was designated as the 122nd. Field Artillery and assigned to the 33rd. Division in September of 1917.The regiments 33rd. Division affiliation is denoted by the three red Fleurs-de-lis on the unit crest.Two color yellow (cavalry) and red (artillery) silk panel construction that make up the flagshow the regiments army branch affiliation.The unit went on to serve in major overseas European campaigns while assigned to the 33rd.In World war One, it participated in the \"Battle of Amiens\", the \"Battle of Hamel\",the gruesome battles of the \"Meuse-Argonne\" offensive, the second battle of the \"Somme\" and finally, the battle of \"Saint Mihiel\".The 33rd. Division was sent back to the states and deactivated in May, 1919 at Camp Grant, Illinois.There were eight Medal of Honor recipients in the 33rd. and casualties were 691 KIA and 6,173 Wounded in Action.Flags approximate dimensions are 54\" inches by 38\" inches.No missing twisted gold fringe on its three sides.Battle flags, like this regimental flag, rarely come up for sale.The flag will NOT be folded but rolled with proper padding for a safe delivery to your location.Free shipping to the continental lower 48 states.There will be a shipping cost for delivery to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and all other locations.See our 100% positive response rating and buy with confidence!
