RARE WW1 ROSS Pattern 1908 Bayonet Type 1 MkI US Marked with Scabbard:

This is a very early 1st Pattern Ross bayonet with the stepped back muzzle ring which has a smaller muzzle ring diameter and a split annual spring inside the muzzle ring. This acts against the muzzle and ring to provide a rattle free and positive fit. This bayonet fit the first pattern of Ross rifle but on the introduction of the MK II rifle the bayonet was altered with a larger muzzle ring diameter, no step back on the muzzle ring and the muzzle spring was deleted. This piece was marked/inspected in January 1909
This example has the following markings:
Pommel Right Side: Broad Arrow Inspection Mark, Makers Name, Location, and Patent Date, with crown over an 8. Pommel Bottom/Rear: Appears to be the number 38 over the number 7, and 11/12 Rear Grip: Crown over 7, and Crown over 9 Right Grip: US with flaming bomb Cross Guard: Bottom: B 944 Top: Canadian Inspection Mark 08 over 1-09
Scabbard Front: IS with Flaming Bomb Scabbard Front: (behind grip): 927, Canadian Broad Arrow Inspection Mark Scabbard Rear: 2 of the Canadian Broad Arrow Inspection Marks, the number "83"
Condition: The blade is in great condition. Very clean, with no pitting. Blade edge is in great shape with no dings or nicks The steel has a normal patina for it's age, but no rust or pitting. Normal handling marks, dings, etc. The lug itself does have some damaged, and is egged, visible in photos.
