Description of Item

RARE! VTG 1950\'S MCM TRI-COLOR HOBNAIL GLASS GLOBED

TENSION POLE LAMP

Been in family since new - Very Original

Even has the original Underwriters Approval Sticker toward the bottom of the pole.

This to me is all original

excepting

At some time in its life a felt self adhesive round felt protector was put on the top plastic thing likely to cause less wear or similar on a ceiling. No big deal in my view. It may fall off in shipping but still no big deal. :0)

At some time in its life in this family has been rewired. Likely grandpa or dad?

I do not see this as any big deal either. If it was rewired likely it needed it.

I put a new rubber tip on the bottom where it sets on the floor as the original one was cracked and fell off. They just slip on similar to those on a walking cane. I do not feel this is a offer deal and you can find different styles of these but I just went to local Hardware and put this one on.

Thats it on the excepting part unless I am missing something. I do not think I am.

Now lets talk details of this lamp.

This is in I would say is in good to very good or better vintage condition for its age that has been in a well kept smoke free home. My family has a history of taking care of things.

Tension top works as it should andIt has use wear from moving around though the different parts of the home which is very typical. As you can see from the pictures the lights work and its switch which is original as well. I remember mom and grandma moving this from room to room over the years.

I always liked this lamp. I kept this for my own use but sadly in my new home the issue is that all the ceilings in this home excepting in the kitchen are quite a bit taller than this lamp at full extension.... and this would not go well in my kitchen. I do not want to change it from original to make it fit my ceilings. :0(

Though I really do not want to get rid of it as it is has the very cool MCM Retro Vintage Modern look but no use keeping if it will not fit in my home and this likely will be my last home. I would like to sell to someone who will enjoy this. My son\'s home has the same issue ceiling wise. He wanted it but did not work their either as his ceilings are taller than mine. This I feel will fit in almost any setting including modern.

If you want original and vintage take a serious look at this. This in my view is one of those vintage things that will be enjoyed for years to come and likely go up in value as well.

Put together and up it is really sturdy in my view.

Lets talk about the hobnail globes. Yes these are all original If you want to know how well family kept things the globes are very much near mint or better for their age. I am NOT finding the usual chips nor any flicks that are worth mentioning (if any) that you could expect on these of this age.

The what I will call special affect inserts that go inside the globes are original and near mint as well. Original ones of these are rare in themselves

The Globe Mounts on the lamp are original and I find no repairs to them. It even as near as I can tell has the original twisty things that hold the glass globes on

It is a combination of brass or brass plated metal and what appear to be dark brown colorations on the rest of the metal lamp pole itself. Brackets holding globes away from the lamp pretty close to the same brass affect but a tube type or a cast metal.

I consider this in good to very good or better condition for being roughly 64 years old.

View the pictures and you be the judge for yourself.

I put I believe they were either 20 watt or 40 watt bulbs in them for the pictures which are not included as they came out of one of my other lamps.

It is very rare to find these gloves with the original special effect globe inserts and the globes in the great condition they are in for their age. I have seen these globe special affect inserts alone top $200.00 or more each before. They are that rare. You will note that these inserts are colored to match the globes which is cool in itself.

Note on Shipping...

I have no issue shipping this.

The lamp does breaks down into sections of roughly 3 foot each

the wiring inside will stay inside and not be removed. There is enough extra wiring in the lamp to take apart, bend it over without hurting the wiring I will then wrap each section piece in bubble wrap and fasten it to the main lamp piece once it is wrapped to keep it all intact. If you read my reviews I ship well.

The pieces that come apart easily as you twist slightly and pull down to disassemble and gently push up and twist to lock assemble in place. No rocket scientist needed. :0) You will have light reassemble when you get it. I just tried this for shipping purposes and it is very simple.

I will likely ship in two boxes subject to change though. The lamp itself will be in one and the shades in another. I give you two shipping options and make sure you review and pick the one that best serves your needs. They will both vary cost wise to you as each have different size, weight and distance requirements.

Due to the length, size and weight of this when this lamp is broken down to ship and well wrapped it will likely be classed to some degree as oversized. This is also heavy and the globes for their size being original heavy glass are heavy by themselves. The two options I have given are likely the cheapest option for shipping so view them both as it will depend on distance from me in part for shipping to you.

VINTAGE, RETRO, ANTIQUE & OLD ITEMS THEY ARE SO COOL

Please remember that Vintage and Antique items will show some wear,blemishes,and imperfections that they have acquired though the years.Old magazines,books,publications,booklets and manuals may come with wear,age spots & page discoloration.Some may have a slight age or other odor from aging.It\'s a natural process.I collect or have collected many Vintage items over the years andI personally feel this adds to their character,charm and shows that the background and history of the pieces as being authentically old and thus making them more in demand,collectable and desirable to those that enjoy and/or collect them.Remember that even a vintage item in really good condition is old and it may not function as well as when it was originally made.Plastic type and other items can change color and/or weaken over time because of light, pollutants, heat, humidity and other items in the air.So if you intend on using a Vintage item,please be aware of this,and be careful.We can not control how you use them.They may be more subject to breaking just because of the fact they are old.Yet other items were madebetter back then,then similar items made today, so you alone have to make your decision to buy and item or not.
