What a deliciously rare and important pair of ambrotype portraits with historical Rhode Island provenance. The pair of ninth plate ambrotypes feature Captain Robert and Mrs. Phoebe Rhodes of Rhode Island. The original portraits, painted by T. Nixon c. 1808, are held in the collection of the Rhode Island Historical Society. See included history and historical images from the Rhode Island Historical Society, as featured in Mrs. Van Leer Carrick's 1928 "Shades of our Ancestors."
The portraits are in good condition (see condition report above) though a bit dim, as ambrotypes tend to be (they just don't have the brightness and elegance of well-done daguerreotypes). A great pair to add to you collection!

Priority shipping in the Continental US. I am sorry, but I do not ship outside the US. It usually takes just a day or two for me to ship your items, but I have set the listing for 5 days just in case something causes a delay. Shipping always includes insurance. I also am a very good packer. You will not receive random chunks of (flaking) styrofoam, packing peanuts, or wads of old grocery bags from me. I use clean bubble wrap and occasionally kraft paper. Last, yes, I am happy to combine shipping when possible. If you let me know you wish to combine, I will change the listing to free shipping and include it with another item.
